TELPES project

Telecare Solutions for Deaf People

The TELPES Project is part of the Digital Citizenship line of the Avanza Plan launched by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce. Its objective is the social inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing people, facilitating their access to teacare services under conditions of equality and non-discrimination.

The technological solutions used are adapted to the communication needs of potential users, and include the following services:

  • alarm: home automation systems x10 and common home telecare associated with lighting and vibration peripherals.
  • Social: based on the Red Cross video service platform and on the SVisual video interpretation platform of the CNSE Foundation.

To verify its effectiveness, 22 people from four different provinces - Madrid, Valencia, Valladolid and Zaragoza -, evaluated the TELPES project over several months in the real environment of their own homes. The purpose of this validation stage is to detect opportunities and weaknesses of this innovative initiative to establish the demands and problems that originate in the field of people and technology.

TELPES started in September 2008 and ends in March 2010.

The Telpes Project, Telecare Solutions for Deaf People, has been awarded by the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (IMSERSO) with its 2010 IMSERSO Infanta Cristina Award for Research, Development and Innovation for promoting access to deaf older people to telecare (ver noticia)
