Improving the autonomy of the elderly so that they can feel independent and remain at home and in their usual environment is one of the objectives of the European project ACTIVATE in which the Red Cross in Galicia is participating.
This project consists of several phases. Our Organization is currently immersed in the identification of people over 65 who wish to participate in the testing phase. We are analyzing two different types of scenarios and each of them with some particularities, which we describe below:
Monitoring. Part of the person's daily life is monitored through the installation of presence sensors in the home and door opening sensors. In this way, any strange behavior or behavior outside of the usual routines can be detected, since the system and the alarms are customized on a case-by-case basis. Users will also have an emergency button. On the other hand, family members or caregivers can observe the behavior of their relative through a web application and they could even receive notifications via email or SMS. for this scenario We are looking for people aged 65 or over who live alone and have a reference relative receive alarms and notifications in case they occur.
Telecare and sensors. Basic telecare equipment is installed in the home with the corresponding emergency button as well as smoke and carbon monoxide sensors (if the home has a device with propane gas or natural gas, the appropriate gas sensor would be installed). In an emergency situation, the notice will be dealt with quickly by the Red Cross. In this scenario, the ideal profile is that of a person aged 65 or over who lives alone or spends most of the day alone or who lives with a person with similar characteristics (elderly person, person with chronic pathologies, etc.).
