Tecsos receives a diploma that recognizes its commitment to accessibility from Ilunion

ILUNION awards nearly 40 institutions and companies a diploma that recognizes their commitment to accessibility. The Tecsos Foundation is one of them. The diploma recognizes initiatives and projects to improve universal accessibility and care for people with disabilities

ILUNION Tecnología y Accesibilidad, belonging to the ONCE group of companies and its Foundation, today awarded nearly 40 companies, institutions and different administrations with which it has worked with diplomas, which recognize their commitment to accessibility within the period established by the Law on Equal Opportunities, Non-Discrimination and Universal Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities.

The event, which took place in Torre ILUNION, was attended by the deputy director of Civil Dialogue, of the General Directorate for Disability Support Policy, Jesús Celada, the director of Universal Accessibility and Innovation of Fundación ONCE, Jesús Hernández, and the executive director of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), Pilar Villarino.

The managing director of ILUNION Technology and Accessibility, Ana Uruñuela, was in charge of welcoming the representatives of this group of corporations and entities, thanking them for their "firm commitment" to promoting universal accessibility.

"It is very encouraging to see that more and more companies, public entities, corporations... look for comprehensive solutions to promote the development of accessibility in all possible areas," said Uruñuela, who added that these diplomas are not just a way of thanking the effort accomplished, but an invitation "to continue so that, among all of us, we end not only with physical or technological barriers, but also with social ones."

A TRANSVERSAL ELEMENT THAT PROVIDES DIVERSITY

Next, the ONCE Foundation's Director of Universal Accessibility and Innovation, Jesús Hernández, highlighted the importance of "facing issues related to accessibility into the business strategies of companies as a transversal element". “Accessibility affects not only the products and services that are offered, but also, from the point of view of human resources, it contributes to the diversity of talent”, he affirmed.

The ceremony was also attended by the executive director of Cermi, Pilar Villarino. This organization promotes the campaign 'Horizonte Accesibilidad 4 december 2017' to raise awareness among citizens about universal accessibility as a matter of human rights, and the absence of it as discrimination and a violation thereof.

After these interventions, the delivery of diplomas began to the companies and entities that at the time trusted ILUNION to improve the accessibility of their web pages, or their 'apps', or to undertake an architectural project accessible from its origin, both on a physical and technological level, or to train its staff in dealing with customers with disabilities, among others.

LEGISLATION

Article 9 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities establishes that the States parties must adopt the pertinent measures to ensure the accessibility of buildings, public roads, transportation, and other outdoor and indoor facilities, such as schools, homes, medical facilities, and workplaces, “so that people with disabilities can live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life”.

Royal Legislative Decree 1/2013, of November 29, which approves the Consolidated Text of the General Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and their Social Inclusion establishes that environments, processes, goods, products and services, transport, information and communications, including information and communication systems and technologies, as well as social communication media and other services and facilities open to the public or for public use, both in urban and rural areas, should be universally accessible.

For ICT accessibility, the period ended on December 4, 2013, while for spaces for public use, urbanization, transport, it will end on December 4 of this year.

With the delivery of diplomas held this morning, ILUNION recognizes the teamwork carried out with each of the distinguished companies in favor of quality accessibility and, consequently, the construction of a society without barriers.
