Innovation in People Care

A legacy of change: GROW and Strengthening Links

The projects IT GROWS y Strengthening Ties, led by the Spanish Red Cross and financed with Next Generation funds from the European Union, marked a turning point in the transformation of long-term support and care models. Their objective was clear: to prevent institutionalization and promote the deinstitutionalization of people in vulnerable situations, relying on community intervention as a central axis.

Following their completion in December 2024, the impact of these projects continues to be felt. The technological solutions developed have proven their effectiveness and are being incorporated into new programmes to expand their reach and benefit more people.

From the TECSOS Foundation, we have contributed to this process with our experience in Social Technologies, ensuring their development and validation in the social field. Today, these innovations continue to evolve and adapt to new contexts in the field of activity of the Spanish Red Cross.

GROW: Building more inclusive communities

The project IT GROWS It promoted the autonomy of vulnerable groups, avoiding their institutionalization and facilitating, whenever possible, their return to the community environment.

One of its milestones was the creation of Orientatech Lab in the CREDI of Leon, an innovation space to validate technological solutions applied to social care.

Developed in 51 Red Cross meetings in 15 provinces, impacted more than 2.730 people, leaving a legacy of key tools and learnings for future community care projects.

Strengthening Links: A New Vision of Community Care

The project Strengthening Ties promoted the autonomy of older people at risk of institutionalization, encouraging collaboration between communities, entities and administrations to improve their care.

Developed in 9 locations in Barcelona, Navarra and Tenerife, provided support to 700 people over 65 years old, allowing them to continue living in their homes with as much independence as possible.

Its key principles—community engagement, a person-centered approach, and impact measurement—continue to inspire new initiatives that integrate technology and strengthen cooperation in the social sphere.
