5G: Affective Avatar
5G for vulnerable groups: Improved adherence to therapeutic treatment in the elderly through an Affective Avatar
The Affective Avatar is a solution designed to help seniors improve their medical adherence, based on the emotional bond with a loved one (in most cases, a grandchild). This loved one appears on a tablet in the form of an avatar to carry out communications such as medication reminders, medical appointments or family events.
Problems in medication adherence in older people is one of the major concerns of the health sector . The Spanish Red Cross and the TECSOS Foundation, being aware of this problem, started an innovation process together with the Altran Foundation to address it. During this process the great power of the emotional bond is evidenced as a motivating element for personal self-care, so it is selected to define a system where elderly and loved ones interact from two types of mobile and tablet applications (family / caregiver application and application of the senior)
Selected by Red.es as one of the use cases where to test 5G technology and thanks to it and the possibilities of the hight quality video communications between the user and family, other users or volunteers other improvements in the lives of the elderly will be addressed, such as strengthening the family bond, relief from loneliness, promotion of healthy habits or cognitive stimulation.
The system will be piloted during the years 2020 and 2021 with older people from the province of Seville
The "5G: Affective Avatar" project is carried out within the framework of the 5G technology pilot project in Andalucia, promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through Red.es and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
