5G: Affective Avatar

5G for vulnerable groups: Improvement in adherence to therapeutic treatment in the elderly through an Affective Avatar

WHAT IS THE OBJETIVE?

Problems in adherence to medication in the elderly are one of the great concerns of the health sector in general. The Red Cross and the TECSOS Foundation, being aware of this problem, began an innovation process together with the Altran Foundation to address it.

This process resulted in the Affective Avatar: a solution designed to help the elderly improve their adherence to taking medication, based on the emotional bond with a loved one (in most cases, a grandchild).

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

This loved one appears on a tablet in the form of an avatar to carry out communications to the elderly such as reminders to take medication, medical appointments, family events. It also promotes the communication of the network of caregivers with the elderly through HD video calls, sending photos and audio memories.

WHAT IS THE STATUS?

The "5G: Affective Avatar" project was carried out within the framework of the 5G technology pilot project in Andalusia, promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through Red.es and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund ( ERDF).

The system was in the pilot phase with real users from April to October 2021 in the town of Guadalema de los Quintero (Utrera, Seville) and Seville capital.

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?
