Project RV.Ommm

RV.Ommm: Relaxation through virtual reality

"RV.Ommm: Relaxation through virtual reality" aims to facilitate a state of mental well-being through the use of virtual reality glasses for people with disabilities. The project is carried out with APAM (http://www.apamja.org/es/), Association of Parents of Disabled Students, and ASPAYM (https://www.aspaymmadrid.org/), Association of Paraplegics and People with Great Physical Disability of the Community of Madrid. The TECSOS Foundation together with these organizations are collaborating in this challenge within the framework of the activity of the "Connected by accessibility" community of the Vodafone Spain Foundation (https://www.fundacionvodafone.es/).

“Connected by accessibility” (https://www.conectadosporlaaccesibilidad.com/) is a community of people, entities and organizations that seeks, through ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies), to be a benchmark for Digital Transformation processes in the environments of people with disabilities to promote full inclusion in the society. It has been launched by the Vodafone Spain Foundation together with social entities. Currently, more than 150 local entities participate and more than 2500 people with disabilities and professionals share their experiences and projects.

RV.Ommm, aims to relax the body, reduce mental and muscular stress, promote positive sensory stimulation, facilitate a state of well-being and tranquility, among other aspects. As an ultimate goal, it is intended to achieve optimal performance of the activities they face daily, trying to avoid those negative feelings and facing problems from another point of view.

Virtual Reality is a very useful tool that is being introduced in health care to treat different issues (pain, anxiety, phobias, etc.). This particularly immersive technology offers the user virtual environments where they are not simply an external and passive observer. , but rather becomes an active participant in a virtual world. Unlike other relaxation methods, the virtual environment provides the disabled user with scenarios where there are no barriers. It offers the opportunity to explore alternate universes through varied landscapes and environments without having to imagine them, making it more accessible to any user, whatever their disability.

For the development of the project, glasses and smartphones are used with content adapted through the platform of the company PSIOUS (https://www.psious.com/), which also has a web platform for people management, which allows making a follow up interactions.
