Innovation: Pilot to improve accessibility at the Central Office of the Spanish Red Cross

This initiative will allow access to information and guidance to people with reduced or no visibility at the Red Cross central office. Among other things, it allows access from the street to the building, reaching the toilets, elevators and points of interest or even taking a guided tour of the Red Cross Operations Center.

To make this progress in terms of accessibility possible, two systems have been used that are described below. It is important to emphasize that these systems also allow people who do not speak Spanish to navigate the office and obtain information on the different areas in their own languages.

In the video, Álvaro, one of the TECSOS Foundation engineers, together with Andrés, who is a Red Cross volunteer and collaborates in this initiative, explain the details of how it works.

The elements of this project that will undoubtedly make facilities more accessible for all people are.

  • Navilens Tags:

Navilens consists of a set of color-coded labels that can be read from a great distance thanks to your Smartphone's camera. The reading of these labels placed in different spaces of the building allows to translate the information related to the space into voice, indicating in this way where the different points of interest are located and what characteristics these spaces have.
Furthermore, if someone of other nationalities visits the building, they can benefit from this information through the multi-language features of the application.

  • Beepcons beacon system:

The Beepcons are acoustic beacons that facilitate the guidance of people with reduced or no visibility through the building. To use the system, you only have to download the corresponding application for your Smartphone in the links provided below and it will show you the different places identified with beacons in the building. To locate these beacons it is necessary to have the Bluetooth of your phone activated. Once the desired beacon has been selected, you can make it sound using the "Locate" option and thus reach your place of interest.
