Project “RV.Ommm – Relaxation through Virtual Reality”

The project "RV.Ommm: Relaxation through virtual reality" starts, within the Vodafone Foundation's "Connected by accessibility" call. It was created by the entities APAM, ASPAYM Madrid and Fundación TECSOS and aims to facilitate a state of mental well-being through the use of virtual reality glasses.

"Connected by accessibility" is a community of people, entities and organizations that seeks, through ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies), to be a benchmark for Digital Transformation processes in the environments of people with disabilities to favor full inclusion in society. It has been launched by the Vodafone Spain Foundation together with social entities. Currently, more than 150 local entities participate and more than 2500 people with disabilities and professionals share their experiences and projects.

The project, which began this month of October and will end in June 2019, aims to relax the body, reduce mental and muscular stress, promote positive sensory stimulation, facilitate a state of well-being and tranquility, among other aspects. As an ultimate goal, it is intended to achieve optimal performance of the activities they face daily, trying to avoid those negative feelings and facing problems from another point of view.

Virtual Reality is a very useful tool that is being introduced in health care to treat different issues (pain, anxiety, phobias, etc.). This particularly immersive technology offers the user virtual environments where they are not simply an external and passive observer. , but rather becomes an active participant in a virtual world. Unlike other relaxation methods, the virtual environment provides the disabled user with scenarios where there are no barriers. It offers the opportunity to explore alternate universes through varied landscapes and environments without having to imagine them, making it more accessible to any user, whatever their disability.

For the development of the project, glasses and smartphones will be used with content adapted through the platform of the company PSIOUS (https://www.psious.com/), which also has a people management web platform, which will allow us to monitor interactions.
