STEPS in the ALL SUMMIT 2012

From June 27 to 29 in Bilbao.

STEPS have been selected to present at the next edition of the AAL SUMMIT 2012 conference on policy and market development for an aging society.

The ALL SUMMIT will take place from June 27 to 29 in Bilbao.

The motto of this conference is "New ways to meet health and social needs with effective technological solutions" (in English, "New Avenues to fill the gap between Health and Welfare Demands and Effective ICT Solutions"). Its main objective is to analyze the lack of harmony between public needs and the introduction of technological developments in order to boost investment and allow the large-scale deployment of AAL (Ambient Assisted Living-Independent Living-) solutions.

The objective is to achieve the following goals:

  • Identify in detail the market barriers that today hinder the commercialization and use of AAL solutions by citizens who really need them.
  • Find new procedures to overcome existing market barriers.
  • Address the need to push AAL products and solutions to be commercially available in the same way as conventional products.
  • Analyze the real needs of potential buyers and end users to avoid imbalances between supply and demand.

This conference focuses on the critical role that public policy and investment must play in creating and developing a global marketplace on aging. For this, it

They will analyze the necessary mechanisms to guarantee a closer link between all the relevant actors in order to satisfy the current socio-sanitary demands of the market.

The bridge between Health, Social Services and Industry will be built, in order to obtain products and services capable of responding to the needs of an increasingly aging population, and to facilitate the necessary transformation of the health and social care model to respond to the current ones

sustainability challenges.

This conference will bring together all relevant actors in this field: investors, businessmen,

industry, entrepreneurs, health and social service providers, health and social care professionals, researchers and policy makers, associations, the medical industry, not forgetting end users (carers, seniors and other citizens).

Investment-related activities will take center stage at AAL SUMMIT 2012, making known the valuable points of view of investors and entrepreneurs in the AAL field, specifically answering the following questions:

  • How do you face this market?
  • How to create solid business plans?
  • How to compete with emerging international markets, such as China, Brazil or Japan?
  • How to innovate using the best practices from other countries such as the US, Canada, Israel, etc.?

La innovation it must cover not only the technology, but also the organizational requirements to achieve the appropriate scale among vendors and prescribers, within a context of social changes where citizens play an active role and assume responsibility for their health care. This new scenario promotes the home as a center of attention and care, changing the conventional model of social and health assistance, and allowing the familiarization of the elderly with the new AAL technologies.

Comprehensive care must be the scenario where the citizen is the main actor, supported by AAL technological solutions that meet their needs. This scenario should allow a more efficient use of resources, which is a critical issue to guarantee the sustainability of the system, and especially in those areas where resources are scarce or limited. It is at this point where the Health Technology Assessment (Health Technology Assessment, HTA) plays an essential role in ensuring that the healthcare technologies involved (methodologies, devices, and organizational systems) are adequately assessed and in providing the necessary information for decision-making on the health, social, ethical, and economic consequences. development, dissemination and use of such technologies.

Finally, this conference will present the progress and results of the initiative Active and Healthy Aging European Innovation Partnership, a particularly relevant topic, since 2012 is celebrated in the European Year of Active Aging and Solidarity between Generations.
